5 Year in Review Questions to Answer Before the New Year

The goals and resolutions you set for yourself at the beginning of January probably didn’t turn out the way you thought they would. Let’s all have a moment of silence for the goals to travel more and spend more time with loved ones in 2020! And regardless of what your original intention for 2020 looked like, I guarantee you learned a lot this past year. We all did!

Before you blissfully sprint to 2021 and the hopes of COVID vaccines, new opportunities, and the chance to actually host a party or gathering at some point in the next 12 months, make sure to take time to consider how far you’ve come this year. Because celebrating your progress is just as important as setting your intention to grow.

Carve out 30 minutes sometime in the next week to answer these questions and conduct a year in review. Notice that none of these questions are related to any of the resolutions you set for yourself. It’s all about thinking about how you’ve grown, what you’ve learned, and how you made yourself proud. No traditional success metrics in sight.

Write these in your journal. Type them into your Notes app. Or, just get out your computer and write an email to yourself to save in a special inbox folder.

5 Questions for Your Year in Review

  1. Who are the people I’m most grateful for?

  2. What lessons did I learn?

  3. How did I make myself proud?

  4. What big wins did I accomplish?

  5. What am I leaving behind in 2020?

Give as much detail as you can when answering these questions. You’re not doing this for anyone else except you, but the process can actually be fun to review with others. Fill out your year in review and send these questions to your friends and family so you can share your answers and ideas with each other.
